  2. Taha, put the value of x in any of the two equations, u'll get it :)
    2ndly Sir Kerai,
In question number 11 , once we have drew the parallel lines, cant we just draw a perpendicular line between the two lines using a protractor and find the length of the line (in between)with the "Pythagorean Theorem"? same goes for question 12.

  3. Taha, I hope your question was answered by Hira.

Hira, you pose an interesting question. You, see the problem is that if we draw the actual thing on graph paper and use a protractor then there is a very high chance that our drawing can be flawed. However, if we do it through equations and mathematical calculation, we are more likely to get the degree of precision that is desirable.

Remember, the whole idea is for you to find ways of doing things that true not just on paper but also in theory. The mathematical process never trusts diagrams and this has been the case since Ancient Greece. The diagrams just help us visualize but are not reliable for calculations.

So, you'll have to use a point on one of the lines, find the equation of the perpendicular line gong through that point, see where it intersects the other line and then find the distance between those two points.

Also, remember that points of intersection may not be nice whole-numbered points and so it'll be hard to get accurate fractions from diagrams that you draw.

  5. Sir,
I don't get where to draw the perpendicular line. :(....

  6. Does the back of the book say 2 times root 5 as the answer? Because that is the same as square root of 20.
